The One Cent Murder Case began with the finding of the body of Al Baker shot as Philo Vance and District Attorney Markham were in his penny arcade. They knew that Baker had some information about Dale Leslie and that Miss Leslie feared blackmail in as much as she was about to start a movie contract. They knew too that her manager Davy Roland was in love with her and had threatened Baker.
