The tale which you will hear today was published in 1889 as part of a series called Real Ghost Stories. Its authors were two persons, listed simply as E and H Herun. We confess in advance that we have toyed a little with it, modernized it slightly, changed the locale and even introduced a character not found in the original. And impertinently, we have altered the title - but the essentials remain the same...
