Ben Taylor was a kindly old prospector who lived in his cabin near his claim, about two miles outside the little settlement of Dundee. Old Ben's grandson, who was ten years old lived with him. Bobby was an orphan and thought his grandfather was the finest and bravest man in all of Yukon Territory. Old Ben had built himself up in Bobby's estimations, by the many heroic tales he told the boy. Though the people in Dundee laughed at his habit of stretching the truth, they regarded him as a harmless and likeable old sour dough.
