“The life line of the United Nations is a string of fighting ships that carry the weapons of war across the brilliant blue of the Pacific and through the murky paths of the North Atlantic, the ships of the Merchant Marine. A torpedo strikes and a gallant vessel may go down but the submarine that murdered her may die too because the Merchant Marine has fangs of its own. And tonight’s play, The Navy Comes Through is the story of the deadly stingers on those merchant ships, The Navy gun crews who strike back at the wolf packs of the seas.”
