George Victor wants to hire Diamond. He has bought the controlling interest in one of the city's leading newspapers and is wanting to expose the "numbers record". He has all the evidence needed to expose one of the biggest operators, Eron Ziegler. Victor's daughter, Cathy, works for Ziegler. She became infatuated with a man named Doug Saxon who has connections with Ziegler. Victor forbid Cathy to see Saxon and, after a huge row, she walked out. Ziegler gave her a job and is going to use her to stop Victor printing the incriminating evidence. Diamond has been assigned to protect her.
