The HMS Trojan is a British submarine on a routine exercise when it accidentally sets off a magnetic mine, left over from the war. The damage is terrible, and it kills many of the seamen aboard the submarine, but there are some survivors. The submarine sinks to the sea floor, and the men must await a rescue and salvage operation before their air supply runs out.
