Harold Maggs buys an old unclaimed oak travelling trunk. He doesn’t know what’s in it as there is no key with it but the lock is beautiful gold plated. However, if Mister Maggs knew what the auctioneer knew of the trunk he would curse him to the devil.

The idea for the story of Mister Maggs came to Arch Oboler when he was in England before the war.
