Karl wanted to get Linda on her own to lecture her about her spending too much time socialising and found it amusing when before he said anything she had taken the offensive and lectured him that he spent too much time at work and needed to be seen more in their social circle. Then as they walked along the beach in the moonlight they noticed someone sitting on the sand, an old man writing names and dates in the sand.
