Hector Freemont Conahan is a rich broker who checks in to a fleabag boarding house late one night with no belongings and Mrs Munford the landlady is suspicious of him. He tells her that he won’t be living there permanently he just needs a place near to his office but where he can escape for some solitude. On the first night he hears the voice of a woman calling for help pleading that she doesn’t want to be killed. He distinctly hears a woman voice but there is no one there, his mind is playing tricks on him but he cannot escape the voice of the woman telling him she is going to be killed and that she doesn’t want to die.
