By day Leonard Snell is a rather pathetic insurance salesman, but he has a penchant for betting on the horses. Unfortunately, he is as bad at gambling as he is at selling insurance policies and he's up to his eyeballs in debt, $1,750 to be precise. The consequences are unthinkable if he cannot find the money, but his wife Celia is not willing to let him use the money she has been saving for an operation. They have a heated argument and Leonard ends up killing Celia. From that moment on Leonard's luck changes completely - for the better - but how long can his change of fortune last.
