The unforgettable Lloyd C. Douglas novel Magnificent Obsession is a story of basic human values, telling of hatred turning in to love and darkness in to light. It stars Irene Dunne in her original film role as Helen Hudson and Willard Waterman as Bobby Merrick the selfish young rich man whose life is saved at the cost of nurse Helen Hudson’s own respected, unselfish husband Doctor Hudson. Despite her bitterness towards Robert Merrick their paths cross again and she is involved in a car accident which renders her blind. Robert Merrick is in love with with Helen and becomes a doctor to help Helen. Knowing him as Dr. Robert she falls in love with him too through his kindness and unselfish obsession to become a surgeon and help Helen see again.
