Madame X

Broadcast: June 14, 1937
Added: Mar 12 2022

The year is 1918 it is late at night and in the richly furnished library of his home in New York City, Alan Cartwright paces the floor anxiously waiting for news of his four year old son who tosses feverishly on a sickbed upstairs. As the door to the library opens Cartwright crushes out a cigarette with nervous fingers and turns quickly to greet the doctor…

A wonderful courtroom drama. A woman refuses to explain or identify herself after she kills a man. Unknown to either of them because she never asked his name and she refused to give her own, the young attorney assigned to defend her (and who is pleading his first case) is the son she was trying to protect from the blackmailer. Review by Betty H.

Special guest on the show is Tennis Champion Helen Wills Moody who is interviewed in the intermission. At the end of the show we hear a real life Madame X and her son whose name is Raymond Mear and they tell their fascinating story from New York.
