Lum is convinced he is cursed with bad luck and has told Abner that he is giving all his possessions away and his share of the Jort 'Em Down store and leaving town. Abner and Grandpappy against their will decide that they have got to tell Lum that it was their fault that he didn't win the $500  and not his bad luck.
