Lum has decided to take the direct approach in his courtship of Mabel Melrose. Instead of trying to curry favour by taking up every one of Miss Melrose's new ideas, he's going to come right out flat-footed and ask her to be his wife. So, as we look in on the little community today, it's early evening and Lum is just arriving at Abner's house.
