Ray Milland and Jane Wyman reprise their 1945 film roles in this powerful drama about Don Birnam a writer and chronic drunk.

The film won four Oscars with Ray Milland winning Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance.

At the end of the production Barry Fitzgerald appears to award the Red Book Magazine Award of 1945 to the men behind the story Mr Charles Brackett and Mr Billy Wilder who between them wrote, directed and produced the picture.
