As the lights of the heavy truck pierce the darkness illuminating the lonely highway far ahead, the driver watched the rearview mirror almost as much as he did the road. The car, far back, was now gaining and honking its horn strangely. As the car drew alongside, there was sudden recognition. The truck slowed down, ground slowly to a halt at the crest of the hill. The truck driver climbed down, and a tall man, Ted Mallory, stepped from the car that had been following. Ted is tall, easy to look at, and ruthless. Ted walks forward to meet his partner because this entire matter has to be handled quickly.
