It's early evening when we join Vic and Sade at their home. Vic's in his easy chair, and Sade has just finished a telephone conversation. She's cross with Vic, who has been grunting and muttering in the background, and Ruthie heard him during their call. Sade is trying to arrange a card game, but Uncle Fletcher is due to visit so there's no way they can play cards with him around.
