It was night and it was Panama City and the few passengers from the Augusta Queen were waiting for the big freighter to resume her voyage to San Francisco. Larry Layton was even more restless than some of the other passengers also he was bored; he’d had little success in trying to strike up an acquaintance with an attractive young woman on board. And now he could see her going ashore with a portly little gentleman attired in ill-fitting white linen. He wondered what such an attractive girl could see in a man like that and decides he must know. Ashore he follows them down an alley where he discovers them having an argument and sees the woman kill him with a knife and run away. Larry approaches the dead man, takes his money from his wallet and the knife, which he wraps in a handkerchief before leaving to re-board the ship. He knows now that the girl can be as lethal and deadly as she is beautiful…
