Albie was riding by when he saw a cabin on fire with a man slumped over the table and burning. Albie goes back to get the Marshall and Chester but the had burnt to death nothing but a cinder. Chester discovers that the horses in the barn are barely skin and bones. It does not appear to be an Indian attack. In fact everything seems strange especially when they discover a little girl named Charity who claims to be his stepdaughter and who is now an orphan.
