Well Lum and Abner have failed so far to raise the $500 which Squire Skimp paid out of his own pocket to hire a lawyer to fight the baby's gold mine case. They sold their old delivery truck only to discover that the purchaser was Cedric, acting as president of the gold mine. Before they discovered this however, Lum gave Squire a check for the $500 they owe him, and paid part of the commission demanded by Mr Douglas, the mechanic who negotiated the sale for them.
