Lem Bailey and Sergeant Preston are out on a hunting trip on the trail of a moose when they disturb a bear which attacks them. They have no choice but to shoot the angry bear. Then they discover why she was angry, she was protecting her cub. Lem decides to take the orphaned bear and make a pet of it. They name him Rudy and he is playful and harmless as a kitten but the bad guys Red Grant and Jake Carter who break in to their cabin don't know that.
