The body of Malcolm Bonds, proprietor of the liquor store, was discovered by his wife less than five minutes after the killing. The sheriff was summonsed and he immediately phoned for the help of the Texas Rangers. Ranger Jace Pearson was assigned arriving at the scene of the crime at 1 am.
