It was almost midnight when the iron gates of prison clanged shut. For the first time in five years, two men stood outside the walls. Johnny Starbuck, young and redheaded took a deep breath of the cool, night air, fully appreciating the sweetness of the air now that the prison walls were behind him. His companion was a much older man, nicknamed Monk, because of his thin fringe of hair around an otherwise bald head.
