John Tyler was the tenth President of the United States of America and resided in the White House from 1841 - 1845. John Tyler had been elected vice president and became president when William Henry Harrison died after only a month in office. Throughout his term President Tyler fought for a treaty for the annexation of Texas to the United States and this was done during his term by joint resolution of congress. The mutiny on the USS Somers actually happened and Philip Spencer the son of secretary of war John Spencer was executed in a case that made naval history in 1843.
