Detective Danny Clover was at the police morgue where the slabs held two men newly dead from alcohol poisoning. They had been sent over from the emergency ward where they had staggered in but it had been too late to save them. One was a pickpocket known to the police but the other although he wore worn clothes on top underneath he wore silk underwear and had neatly manicured nails and did not seem like a street bum.
