Just suppose, said the philosopher, that  this was the last day of the world. Well of course, no-one is really prepared for such a question, much less, for such an eventuality. It's possible for the world to come to an end, suddenly, silently, a candle blown out by the wind. It happens just that way for so many people. One moment they glory in the light, and in the next they grovel in the dark.
