Mr and Mrs Jalap are new people in town. They have paid good money for a ranch about 60 miles south of Dodge and Marshall Matt Dillon tells them that they have a good neighbor in Bob Oran who lives 10 miles from them. While in town they met Bob Oran who told them that the rumor that the area was full of Comanche Indians is all lies. Marshall Matt Dillon reassures them that the Comanche all live on the reservation now. He says he will call in on them in the next week and when he does he discovers there has been a fire. They find an arrow and a new grave containing the body of Mrs Jalap who has been scalped.
