There’s an old bromide about nothing being deader than yesterdays news, but what about the people who made that news, it’s still alive to them. There’s another old bromide about taking things for granted. It’s just past midnight when Randy steps out onto the pavement when John Gault who’s just escaped on the way to the death house holds him up. John Gault wants to stay free long enough to prove he’s innocent and has a grudge with Stone for printing the story of his guilt.
