There are noises in the night, noises that are only heard in the stillness of the night, sighs and groans and creaks and moans and they are made by no human voice and they issue from no human throat. What are they, why does the floor squeak when no one is stepping on it? Is it the house itself, are there times when a house can become tired and restless and frightened just like a human being? Who knows?
