Jeremy Ward operated a freight line across the most dangerous land in the west. Many trips have been interrupted by outlaws in the badlands between Ward station and the town of Jamesville. Several drivers have been killed. Old Hobey Martin had escaped with his life but crippling wounds had ended his career as a driver. For the past year Hobey had worked in the café each evening while he lived with Jeremy Ward and Ward’s 10-year-old grandson in a combined home and office on the edge of town.
