Our story opens in a doctor's office, where the doctor, a genial, middle-aged man, is smiling across at young Mrs Peggy Conlon, who has just received the news that she is pregnant. Peggy is in a state of shock, very nervous to tell her husband Bill the news, as she knows he will say that the baby is absolutely out of the question. They've always been so happy. Won't this be a happy ending too?
