Adapted from the opera by Engelbert Humperdinck, and based on the fairy tale of the same name by the Brothers Grimm. The opera tells the story of two young children, Hansel and Gretel, who are abandoned in a forest by their parents. They wander through the woods until they come upon a gingerbread house. The house is owned by a wicked witch who captures the children and plans to eat them. However, the children are clever and manage to outwit the witch, who is eventually burned to death in her own oven. The opera ends with the children being reunited with their parents, who have learned from their mistakes and are now grateful for their children's return.
