A case which began with almost two dozen disappearances and wound up with one killer who used a hammer with purpose. A hammerhead made of cast steel designed for driving nails, with a clawed prong for pulling nails, a practical thing, a familiar thing and in this case a very lethal thing and a thing which can be found today in Scotland Yard's museum of murder, the Black Museum.
