Our story today opens in the late summer of 1923 in the office of the Superintendent of the Colorado State Reform school as two boys, both juvenile offenders, stand silent and uncomfortable before the Superintendent's desk. They are due to be released now that they have paid their debt to society, but will they have learned during their time there that crime does not pay?
