Marco and Giuseppe are two gondoliers, and identical twins who were separated at birth. One is unknowingly the heir to the throne of the fictional kingdom of Barataria. When the truth is revealed, they find themselves in a political and romantic entanglement, questioning duty, love, and the idea of monarchy.
