Fifteen degrees north of the equator in the heart of the Anglo Egyptian Sudan the Blue Nile and the White Nile meet forming a narrow hook of land strangely shaped like an elephant’s trunk. The city that lies there has been given the Arabic name for elephant’s trunk, Khartoum and it is from Khartoum that many safaris have started in quest of the now almost forgotten Gold of the Sudan.
