Brenda Stirling was recently murdered, and her boyfriend Howard Gilbert has been convicted of the murder and sentenced to hang. Brenda's father feels sure he didn't do it, in spite of all the evidence against Gilbert, and so asks Paul to clear his name and discover the real murderer. Westerman was a friend of Mrs Talbot, and he is prepared to consider telling Paul Temple all about Mrs Talbot and her association with Betty Wayne - and could be persuaded to discuss other things too.
