Brenda Stirling was recently murdered, and her boyfriend Howard Gilbert has been convicted of the murder and sentenced to hang. Brenda's father feels sure he didn't do it, in spite of all the evidence against Gilbert, and so asks Paul to clear his name and discover the real murderer. Paul begins making inquiries, beginning with Mrs Talbot. But just twenty minutes later, the Inspector informs Paul and Steve, that Mrs Talbot is dead...
