In an evening in late December a flurry of snow is beginning to fall as a smartly dressed young woman, Eva Covington, knocks on the heavy door of Gerald Covington's country estate. Gerald is giving a party in honor of Aunt Francis' 72nd birthday. Gerald has always been a mean, stingy man and he has never done anything for his Aunt so Eva finds it all quite strange.
