In the very early 1500s, all of Spain was aflame with fever - gold fever. There was a great new world out there on the west, and it wasn't the land of India, or China, or any part of the Orient. In fact, maybe Columbus was right, and the world really was round after all, and there really was a place where fortunes could be made. Throughout Spain from Barcelona to Cadiz, from Valencia to Salamanca, you could hear the recruiting sergeants of the conquistador captains calling 'Who wants to make his fortune?'
