A man and a woman, strangers until now,  meet on a dark night on a bridge as each contemplates suicide. Though desperate herself she tries to talk him down. They come to reflect on their lives, the few happy times and the desperation and loneliness which has driven them to this miserable end; would anyone care if the river took them?
