Jerry North's bookkeeper, Herbert Gunther, makes the terrible mistake of taking a $10,000 bribe in order to acquit New York gambler Nick Daniels from contempt charges. The decision weighs heavily on his mind, but not his daughter's - who is only interested in the money. Unfortunately, his wife, Rose Gunther, overhears the two of them discussing his betrayal, and decides to go and see the North's to tell them the truth. She is murdered. A classic whodunnit.
