John Wesley Hyatt founded two great industries; he was the father of plastics and also of roller bearings. Hyatt was born on 28th November 1837 in Starkey, New York. In 1863 at the age of 26 we find him working in a print shop in New York and he is reading the newspaper when he spots an advert for a prize of $10,000 for the discovery of a satisfactory substitute for ivory in the making of billiard balls.
