Since the Great Western Sterling Silver Company of which Lum is president has turned out to be a failure the stockholders are holding him responsible for their losses. Although innocent of any fraud he has suddenly been ostracized by his fellow townsmen. Yesterday he conceived the idea of making a hero himself to regain their confidence and hit upon the plan of having Abner pretend top be kidnapped so that he might rescue him.
