There’s nothing very exciting about the postman’s visit to my café tambourine, the usual stack of bills and occasional ad, but this particular mail delivery brought something else, a business-sized envelope bearing a Syrian stamp. The letterhead inside contained the heading “Ship and Shape Enterprises, Beirut Syria” and below a curt message “ Arrive in Cairo Thursday. Please arrange appointment at your café 3:45pm that day”.
