"The man in the saddle is angular and long legged. His skin is sun dyed brown. The gun in his holster is grey steel and rainbow-mother-of-pearl, its handle unmarked. People call them both the Six Shooter". James Stewart is Britt Ponset - The Six Shooter. It's the box supper auction and square dance annual event and Grace Proudley - the organizer has insisted that Britt attends, as he's somewhat of a celebrity in the town. Britt notices a clash of personalities between Spud Hooker and Tom Leveret when both men bid for the supper of Ellen Proudley. The characters of both men are further revealed when a prisoner escapes and they each set off on his trail.
