The story is set on the island of Arn off the west coast of Ireland. Thomas and Paddy Donnel are twins yet Thomas is as good as an angel and Paddy was evil since the moment he took his first breath of God’s good air. It is Thomas’s wedding and his brother turns up and tells him that there is a fortune waiting for them to recover in a shipwreck. Paddy tells them if they go now they will be back in three hours. Thomas knows his brother is bad but is lured by the promise of riches to give his new wife Eileen. Eileen lets him go but in her heart she fears she will never see him again.
