Gilbert Vaughn had everything to live for; a sizeable income, pension, and many interests. It's true that his mother and father had died in the epidemic which had taken the lives of many in England, but that had happened when he was fourteen, and he was now twenty five. But for all of his money and all of his friends, Gilbert was single and he was lonely.
