Charles Ross Vikter age 42 is a master chess player on his way to a tournament down a dark narrow country lane on a stormy night when he accidentally struck a man down. The bitter sheriff knew it was an accident but when he realizes it is Victer, his chess hero, he insists he live in the small-town and play chess with him everyday or he will have him convicted of murder.
