When Bob Clark's father dies he suddenly  finds himself owing Red bannister a thousand dollars from a loan his father was supposed to have taken. Bannister tells him if he can't pay the loan he will lose his gold claim. Bob does not believe his father would've entered in to such a loan and and accuses Red Bannister of faking his father's signature. In an outrage Bob suggests that Red had even gone so far as to kill his father to take over their claim. When Red draws a gun on Bob, Bob acts in self defence and shoots Red and flees the scene. Later he confesses to killing Red but Sergeant Preston is suspicious of the circumstances as no one has see the corpse and they only have Bannister's Lawyer and men's word that they buried him.
